EWT is a global designer and manufacturer of direct drive wind turbines, active in Europe, North America, and Asia. EWT was established in 2004 and is based in the Netherlands. The company offers a broad product portfolio of onshore direct-drive wind turbines.

Job Summary:

As an Electrical and System Engineer at EWT, you will be integral to the design and development of advanced wind turbine electrical systems, with a focus on integrating these systems within microgrids. This position demands expertise in electrical systems design, control panels design, switchgear, power electronics, wind turbine inverter operation, and adherence to grid code requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product efficiency and drive innovation in sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the context of microgrid applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Development: Lead the design and simulation of electrical systems for wind turbines, including generators, converters, and power distribution systems. Focus on optimizing these systems for seamless integration into microgrids, ensuring they work efficiently within both standalone and interconnected environments.
  2. Microgrid Integration: Develop strategies for integrating wind turbine technology within microgrids, including energy storage solutions and demand response capabilities. Employ innovative techniques to ensure robust, reliable, and adaptive integration that aligns with varying energy demands and supply conditions.
  3. System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of various system components with the overall turbine architecture. This requires a deep understanding of both the hardware elements and their interfacing with control software to ensure optimal operation and scalability in diverse settings.
  4. Innovation and Improvement: Innovate and improve electrical designs to enhance performance and reliability while reducing costs.
  5. Testing and Validation: Develop testing protocols and participate in the validation of electrical components and systems to meet engineering standards, and grid compliance requirements.
  6. Troubleshooting: Provide troubleshooting support during system failures or malfunctions, propose corrective actions, and enhance system resilience.
  7. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet local and international electrical standards, grid code requirements, and microgrid-specific regulations.
  8. Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with other engineering teams, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure project goals are met within timelines and budgets.
  9. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for designs, tests, and modifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a similar technical field. Candidates with advanced degrees such as Ph.D. are very welcome.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in wind turbine design and manufacturing. Candidates with relevant experience in related fields such as renewable energy systems, electrical infrastructure for sustainable technologies, or similar engineering roles will also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of power electronics, electrical panels, inverter technologies, and microgrid systems.
  • Proven track record of designing electrical systems that meet grid code requirements and are suitable for microgrid applications.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard CAD and simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, E-Plan, PSCAD, etc.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English, with Dutch or any additional language being advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Work Environment:

This role requires a blend of office work and field testing, including occasional visits to manufacturing sites, testing facilities, and microgrid installations.

Regular interaction with international teams may require flexible working hours and travel.
