Emergya Wind Technologies (EWT) is a global designer and manufacturer of direct drive wind turbines, active in Europe, North America, and Asia. EWT was established in 2004 and is based in the Netherlands. The company offers a broad product portfolio of onshore direct-drive wind turbines.
Job Summary:
As a Power System Engineer at EWT, you will be responsible for the planning, design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems, focusing on islanding and grid-connected microgrids. This role involves ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of power grids, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Additionally, you will bring your expertise in switch-gear and medium-voltage (MV) transformers to enhance the performance and reliability of these systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electrical power systems, focusing on the integration of switchgear, MV transformers, and power converters connected at DC or AC electrical network.
- Conduct detailed simulations and modeling to analyze and optimize the performance and efficiency of power systems.
- Develop technical specifications, design documentation, test plans, and performance reports, particularly for power cables, protection relays, switchgear, and MV transformers.
- Perform feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new projects and system upgrades.
- Perform load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, stability analysis, and harmonic analysis
- Ensure wind turbine electrical systems and power systems comply with local, national, and international grid codes.
- Prepare and submit documentation for grid code compliance specific to wind turbines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to power system operations
- Monitor power system performance, analyze reliability metrics, and propose enhancements to improve resilience and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and control engineers, to ensure successful project execution.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in power systems technologies, renewable energy integration, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams regarding power systems design, operation, and maintenance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in power systems engineering, particularly involving switchgear and MV transformers.
- Proficiency in power systems modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSS®E, ETAP, PSCAD).
- Strong understanding of power electronics, protection relays, and control systems used in power systems applications.
- Experience in integrating renewable energy sources such as solar PV and energy storage systems within power infrastructure.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed recommendations.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and preparing technical documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, international standards (i.e. IEEE, IEC, UL, CEI 0-16), regulations, and best practices related to power systems and renewable energy integration.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validation of power systems.
- Familiarity with grid integration and compliance requirements for renewable energy systems.
- Project management experience or certifications.
Work Environment:
This role requires a blend of office work and field testing, including occasional visits to manufacturing sites, and testing facilities.
Regular interaction with international teams may require flexible working hours and travel.
