EWT appoints Carel Kok as its new CEO

April 6, 2022

Starting 1 March 2022, Carel succeeds Renger Idema, who stepped down as Managing Director and CEO earlier this year. Together with Mark Jonkhof and Michiel Fornier, Carel Kok forms EWT’s Executive Board.

Carel has more than 25 years of corporate and entrepreneurial experience in the energy, utility and renewables industries and has held C-level and board positions in public and private companies on three continents. His involvement in the wind industry goes back to the late 90’s in Europe as well as in China. After commercially leading the transformation of nv Nuon (now Vattenfall) from a regulated utility to an international energy company, he was active in various entrepreneurial ventures in renewable energy generation and low energy technology. Prior to joining EWT, Carel led Terre des Hommes Netherlands, a humanitarian organization focusing on fighting child exploitation worldwide.

“I’m very pleased to be given the opportunity to lead EWT,” says Carel Kok. “Today more than ever it is evident that energy security and the energy transition are critical not only for environmental, but also for geo-political and humanitarian reasons. EWT in its own way has an ability to play a role in this and be of value in a rapidly evolving industry.”

“We are very pleased that Carel is joining EWT. His considerable experience and leadership will serve the company well and we believe he is the right person to lead the company as the renewable energy industry continues to accelerate,“ says Heleen van Poecke, representing EWT’s majority shareholder AtlasInvest.

Carel holds a BA in Political Science from Princeton University and an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University.
