Four EWT turbines to power up to 650 Yukon homes per year

October 16, 2023

The official opening of the Haeckel Hill wind turbine project at Whitehorse, Yukon, is a fact. With black blades and factory installed de-icing and blade heating, the project is another confirmation of EWT’s leading role as supplier of choice for remote cold climate direct drive wind turbines.

More importantly, the Eagle Hill Energy Partnership is 100% owned by the Kwanlin Dun First Nation, making this Canada’s first fully indigenous owned renewable energy generation facility. EWT congratulates Chief Smith, the Members of Council and all the people of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation for this ground breaking achievement on their ancestral lands.

Thanks to the (8 year long) tenacity of Northern Energy Capital and the hard work of Green Cat Renewables and the many contract partners involved on the ground, the four EWT turbines now stand proudly atop Thay T’äw to serve the community of Whitehorse with energy sufficient to power over 600 homes in this cold microgrid environment. Special thanks to Yukon Energy, the Yukon government, and especially the financial support of the federal government of Canada to make this dream a reality.
