Wood Green The Animals Charity is one of the largest pet rehoming centres in Europe. After 20 years of successful operation, their existing wind turbine had come to the end of its life. Wood Green contracted EWT to have it replaced with a state-of-the-art machine: the EWT DW54-500kW.
The new wind turbine generates enough electricity to make Wood Green’s animal shelter almost entirely energy self-sufficient. Energy savings made have allowed the Charity to spend more on the welfare of the vulnerable animals in its care. Improvements include investments in a new veterinary surgery and upgraded kennel blocks.
Wood Green is passionate about reducing the Charity’s impact on the environment through carbon reduction. The wind turbine generates on average 1,800 megawatthour of zero-carbon electricity per year. This replaces between 560 and 1,340 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum, compared to either gas or coal fired power stations.
Any surplus power is fed into the local grid network. The wind turbine is expected to pay for itself within seven years.
