EWT Blade Inspection, Repair & Maintenance

Did you know that EWT delivers wind turbine rotor blade inspection, maintenance and repair services for all wind turbine brands? We offer a comprehensive range of blade repair and maintenance services across Europe.
Our dedicated blade team is reliable and multi-skilled, capable in all facets of blade work from the application of leading-edge protection through to major repairs such as complete tip replacements. Between them they have over 25 years of experience in blade work.

All members of our blade team have experience managing teams both large and small. They draw upon this experience to provide technical knowledge, advice and training to our junior repair technicians. Our blade repair and maintenance team can work on multiple tasks in different locations at any one time.

We also have technicians who are trained in blade inspections in all regions of Europe. Full inspection reports are created using telescopes and zoom cameras. This allows us to keep a close eye on the condition of the blades. This also gives us the capability to report and assess damage quickly with short mobilisation times.

The blade team is backed up by the international, multi-departmental EWT team. Our engineering department with aerodynamic specialists has implemented several upgrades to our various blade sets to increase yield, lifetime and reliability. EWT also has a dedicated blade factory where we make our own blades and can perform repair works.
Our blade team is fully certified and has direct experience with: Vestas, Siemens, Enercon, Senvion, Nordex, Bonus, LM, Repower, Samsung, Move and Gamesa blades.

Multi-brand O&M

EWT’s renowned O&M service is also available for a growing range of non-EWT turbines.

For more than fifteen years, EWT has been delivering best in class service on our own wind turbines, no matter how many or how few turbines you own. Owners of a growing range of other turbine brands are also enjoying the benefits of our value-add maintenance support through our multi-brand service programme. When your manufacturer’s warranty runs out, we are here to help – using our wide-ranging expertise, extensive resources and personal approach to help you get more out of your turbine.

Thanks to our extensive service team network, you can be sure of the highest quality and fastest response times. Plus, our flexible offering lets you choose exactly the level of support you need. You can choose from a range of one-off services to partial and short-term service contracts, as well as longer and full scope packages. We currently look after the majority of the UK fleet of Powerwind turbines, carry out major component exchange and ongoing servicing on Senvion turbines and deliver 24/7/365 remote monitoring services on a range of Bonus, Siemens and WindDane turbines.

High Voltage Service & Maintenance

As an owner of an EWT wind turbine you’ll know Service and Maintenance is key to the successful running of your wind turbine. Whilst EWT are your O&M provider for the turbine itself, our current package does NOT extend to the High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) Electrical Equipment outside of the turbine – i.e. your Transformer, HV switchgear and any Low Voltage Power & Lighting within the sub-station. EWT has teamed up with WindCare to be able to provide this High Voltage O&M Service and Maintenance to all our UK customers.

As the owner (Duty Holder) of the grid connection with your local District Network Operator (DNO), you have a legal duty of care for your generating equipment in keeping with Regulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. This mandatory regulation outlines the need for Inspection, Maintenance and Monitoring to ensure safety of the system and ultimately that the duty holder is compliant.

WindCare currently provide O&M for around 350 turbines and HV Equipment across the country. WindCare have worked on around 70x EWT installations over the past few years including working directly for EWT as an electrical contractor. With servicing teams working across the country, WindCare is the ideal partner to provide National Coverage to our customers for this HV & LV Service and Maintenance.

Benefits of Servicing by WindCare

  • Ensure you stay compliant with Electricity Regulations.
  • Ensure you stay compliant with Fixed Installation Testing legal regulations for Low Voltage electrical installations.
  • Ensure continued successful running of your transformer (and thus wind turbine) from early detection of component failure through integrity inspection and thermal imaging. This reduces the risk of catastrophic failure and allows work to be planned in advance if required.
  • Oil analysis to inspect for oil degradation. If sufficiently degraded, transformer oil can act as a conductor causing a short circuit between phases and the transformer to fail. Previous services WindCare have completed have identified transformers which WILL need oil changes in the coming years to prevent catastrophic failure.
  • Ensure you have a comprehensive service history of your HV and LV electrical system which is often a requirement in insurance claims etc.

Included in a Typical 5 Year Agreement

  • Annual Inspection of your Transformer including Thermal Imaging.
  • Annual Sampling and Testing of your Transformer Oil including Detailed Analysis and Commentary.
  • Annual Inspection and Testing of Transformer Mounted HV Switchgear and Protection Relays (if installed).
  • Annual Testing of your Earthing System.
  • Annual Fixed Installation Inspection of your Small Electrics.
  • Annual Inspection of your substation – H&S signage & locks, vegetation, vermin, water ingress etc.
  • Annual Inspection Report.

WindCare offer a 5 Year Fixed Agreement for Single HV Transformer at an attractive rate. Please contact Lisa Bryan at +44 (0)7408815081 or l.bryan@ewtdirectwind.com for more information.

Service in the times of COVID-19

We are happy to be able to report that even despite the challenges we’ve all had to face during the COVID-19 pandemic the average availability of our installed base has remained at around 99%, which demonstrates not only the quality of our product but also the effectiveness and commitment of our service organization and supply chain who still – when possible and permitted to do so – have travelled and worked on site throughout the lockdown and restrictions. We’re very proud to share that our largest portfolio owner in the UK specifically complimented us on keeping our service levels and availability up during these challenging times.
